Welcoming prospective students and parents to campus

Dear Jayhawks,

A few weeks ago we were proud to announce that this year’s freshman class is the largest in KU history. Our enrollment success is a testament to the work you do to attract talented students to KU and help them succeed.

We are already recruiting our next class of Jayhawks — and we have a special opportunity this Friday, Oct. 20, to welcome prospective students and families for our annual Crimson & Blue Day open house event.

Throughout the day, more than 2,000 high school students, transfer students and family members will participate in campus tours, resource fairs and other customized appointments to help them explore KU. Their day begins in Allen Fieldhouse and then takes them to all corners of campus to visit classrooms, residence halls, labs and other spaces they’re interested in seeing. It’s an impressive day of programming and an important opportunity for us to showcase our university.

So, if you know a student who is considering KU, encourage them to register and attend Friday’s event. If your unit department wants to formally be part of the day’s activities, send us a note at visit@ku.edu. And perhaps most importantly, when you see prospective students and families on campus Friday, take a moment to say hello and make them feel at home. A simple smile or conversation goes a long way toward ensuring our guests choose to become Jayhawks.

Surveys show the campus visit is among the key factors in a student’s decision on where to attend college. Thanks to the work of so many of you, KU already provides one of the best campus tour experiences in the nation — and that experience will get even better in the years ahead thanks to our new Jayhawk Welcome Center and the development of the Gateway District at 11th and Mississippi streets.

Thank you for rolling out the red carpet Friday and helping us make Crimson & Blue Day a success.

Respectfully,

Doug
