Rolling out the red carpet

Dear Jayhawks,

Earlier this month, we saw good news regarding our annual enrollment announcement. In particular, we achieved all-time highs in retention and graduation rates, while our overall student headcount held steady despite the national trend of significantly decreasing enrollments. All of this is a testament to the work you do to attract talented students to KU and help them succeed.

Of course, we are already looking ahead to recruiting our next class of Jayhawks — and today, we have a special opportunity to welcome prospective students and families to Lawrence for our annual Crimson & Blue Day. Throughout the day, more than 1,000 high school students, transfer students and their families will participate in campus tours, academic sessions, resource fairs and other customized appointments to help them explore KU. It’s a truly impressive day of programming and a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase our university.

So if you see prospective students on campus today, please take a moment to say hello and make them feel at home. A simple gesture can go a long way toward ensuring our guests choose to become Jayhawks.

Survey data consistently illustrates the campus visit to be among the most important factors in a student’s decision on where to attend college. Thank you for rolling out the red carpet today and making Crimson & Blue Day a success.

Respectfully,

Doug
