Remembering and honoring Veterans
Colleagues,
On Veterans Day, we remember and honor those who have served our country. Generations of veterans contributed in myriad ways during conflict and peacetime. They have defended our freedom overseas and have distributed disaster relief at home. And whether they served 100 years ago or are currently serving, we appreciate their sacrifice and commitment.
This year, in particular, we have been reminded of the Jayhawks who made the ultimate sacrifice through their military service. In August, we rededicated David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium in remembrance of WWI veterans, including a new memorial installation to tell their story. And, for the past several months, we have watched as workers painstakingly cleaned and repaired the Campanile, our iconic memorial to WWII veterans. Those projects remind us that we are caretakers of history, and we have a responsibility to keep the legacy and memories alive for future generations.
Join me tomorrow in remembering and honoring family, friends, Jayhawks, and community members who served —or are serving — our country. KU has activities and events planned this week both on the Lawrence campus and KU Medical Center campus. And, take a few minutes to read profiles of current ROTC students who reflect our mission of educating leaders.
Thank you to our veterans for their service.
Respectfully,
Doug
