Join us for the first University Research Awards event April 22

Colleagues,

Few of us need reminding of the grand challenges facing our society today. As one of our nation’s leading public research universities, KU has a special role in fostering a culture of research that addresses these challenges.

As part of this effort, we’re hosting a new event this year that will celebrate the recipients of our university’s top research awards.

Please join me and our new provost and executive vice chancellor of the Lawrence campus, Barbara Bichelmeyer, as we celebrate and support our research-productive faculty in disciplines across the university. The University Research Awards event is scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, at Forums A-D in the Burge Union. A reception will follow the program.

This new event will bring together the winners of our university’s top research awards and commemorate them on one night. These awards include the University Scholarly Achievement Awards, the Higuchi-KU Endowment Research Achievement Awards, and the KU Research Staff & Postdoctoral Achievement Awards. These awards recognize researchers from our Lawrence and KU Medical Center campuses and beyond.

The event is free and open to the public, but we request that you RSVP online if you’re interested in attending.

Our top scholars know well the joy of discovery. New insights can come from all corners of our university. They can spring forth from a clinical trial for a new cancer drug, an elegant statistical analysis, a particularly perceptive novel, or an expressive piece of music.

I hope you’ll make time to join me as we share their joy and celebrate their outstanding work in a relaxed and informal setting.

Respectfully,

Doug
