Chancellor’s Distinguished Service Award
The Chancellor’s Distinguished Service Award recognizes individuals for their notable service or contributions to KU.
SUMMARY
The Chancellor’s Distinguished Service Award is a new award designed to recognize a single individual for notable service or contributions to KU. The award winner will have demonstrated either a specific short-term service to KU during the academic year, or a body of service over multiple years, that has meaningfully benefitted the university.
ELIGIBILTY
The award is intended to recognize an external individual (non-KU employee) who is part of the broader KU community by virtue of service to KU. Nominees may include but are not limited to advisory board members, alumni, elected officials, nonprofit leaders, philanthropists, policymakers and prominent figures who use their platform to benefit KU.
SELECTION PROCESS
A committee will solicit nominations and make recommendations to the Chancellor. The Chancellor will make the final decision. The committee will include the following individuals or their designees:
- Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor of the Lawrence Campus
- Executive Vice Chancellor of the KU Medical Center Campus
- Vice Chancellor for Communications and Public Affairs
- Chancellor’s Chief of Staff and Vice Chancellor for Strategic Initiatives
- President of the KU Alumni Association
TIMELINE
The committee will accept nominations annually beginning August 1 and provide its recommendations to the Chancellor by March 1. The chancellor will choose the award winner by March 15.
