Chancellor to host second virtual University Update on April 16

Students, faculty and staff,

Thank you for joining me April 2 for our virtual University Update to discuss the COVID-19 pandemic. Nearly 1,300 of you participated in that discussion to hear how the Lawrence and Edwards campuses are responding to the pandemic in areas such as student affairs, human resources, online instruction, and research.

Much has happened since that discussion, and so I write today to invite you to join me and other KU leaders for our next virtual University Update on Thursday, April 16 at 4:30 p.m.

This discussion will focus on healthcare in our region, including the work our KU Medical Center and The University of Kansas Hospital are doing as part of the regional response. Presenters will also share their thoughts about what the weeks ahead may look like for KU.

The following leaders will join me as presenters during the University Update:

  • Andrew Foster – emergency management coordinator, KU
  • Dr. Rob Simari – executive vice chancellor, KU Medical Center
  • Dr. Steve Stites – vice chancellor for clinical affairs for KU Medical Center and senior vice president for clinical affairs for The University of Kansas Health System
  • Dr. Matthias Salathe – chair, department of internal medicine, KU School of Medicine; interim vice chancellor for research, KU Medical Center
  • Barbara Bichelmeyer – provost and executive vice chancellor, KU
  • Dave Cook – incoming vice chancellor for public affairs and economic development, KU

In addition to this University Update, please note KU Medical Center will host a Virtual Town Hall earlier in the day at 3 p.m., and Provost Bichelmeyer is scheduling Conversation Breaks with Lawrence and Edwards constituents through the end of the spring semester.

Amid unprecedented circumstances, you have risen to the occasion in a way that makes our community safer and enables us to continue our mission of education, service and research. You should be proud of yourselves and commended for your efforts.
