Colleagues,
Welcome to "3, 2, One KU," a weekly memo in which I'll share updates and thoughts for the week ahead. The title of the memo is derived from the format: each edition will include three things to know, two things to share, and one reflection on how our "One KU" initiative is enhancing collaboration across our campuses. I hope you find this weekly communication informative.
Respectfully,
Doug
Three things to know

Classroom instructors invited to annual KU Teaching Summit
Faculty and instructional staff are invited to the annual KU Teaching Summit on Thursday, Aug. 20, in Lawrence. This year’s theme, Teaching as a Human Endeavor, will explore ways to strengthen teaching and learning through meaningful human connection. View the agenda and register by August 10.
OMB proposal creates uncertainty for states, localities, nonprofits
As we've discussed previously in this newsletter and other campus communications, the Association of American Universities (AAU) and its member institutions remain deeply concerned about the Office of Management and Budget's proposed revisions to the federal government's Uniform Guidance. Related to this, AAU recently published an article explaining how these changes could affect not only universities, but also states, local governments, nonprofits and the individuals they serve.
Two things to share

Our region continues to receive national and international recognition for its hospitality and energy as a FIFA World Cup host. Check out this weekend’s New York Times article, “Kansas City, the Smallest World Cup Host, Has the World at Its Feet.”
KU trains the first responders who protect Kansas communities
KU serves communities across Kansas in countless ways. Through the Kansas Fire & Rescue Training Institute and the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center, we prepare the first responders who protect our state — i.e. the professionals who run toward danger when others cannot. "One KU"
One KU awards fund 16 research projects across campuses, disciplines
Sixteen projects will receive funding through two One KU programs that support faculty developing new interdisciplinary collaborations or adapting existing research to align with emerging funding priorities.
The Office of Research received nearly 100 proposals, all of which underwent peer review by KU faculty experts. We are encouraged by the strong response from researchers eager to build new partnerships and pursue work that benefits society. At a time of uncertainty in the federal research landscape, this level of interest also underscores the value of seed funding that helps faculty generate preliminary results, strengthen collaborations and compete successfully for external support.
