Colleagues,
Welcome to "3, 2, One KU," a weekly memo in which I'll share updates and thoughts for the week ahead. The title of the memo is derived from the format: each edition will include three things to know, two things to share, and one reflection on how our "One KU" initiative is enhancing collaboration across our campuses. I hope you find this weekly communication informative.
Respectfully,
Doug
Three things to know
Peer review identifies strengths, opportunities for One KU research enterprise
Earlier today, KU research leaders Matthias Salathe and Shelley Hooks provided an update on last year’s assessment of KU research operations by the National Council of University Research Administrators. Overall, the NCURA cited KU’s strong commitment to research and also identified opportunities for us to improve. These recommendations align with current One KU working groups and will guide our next steps to enhance our research enterprise.
Great Colleges to Work for Survey opens today
Just a reminder that KU staff members will have the opportunity to share their experiences through the Great Colleges to Work For survey, part of the newly expanded University Constituent Survey process. Staff at all KU campuses will receive a secure email invitation today from ModernThink to participate. Refer to the FAQs on the webpage to understand who is invited to participate.
Reminder of information on on federal immigration law enforcement
In response to last week’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity in Lawrence, university leaders have continued to share guidance, answer questions and remind campus constituents of resources. In last Thursday’s virtual town hall, Barbara Bichelmeyer shared information on what to do if an unexpected person visits a classroom, workspace or residence hall. Additionally, the Office of the General Counsel provided guidance on law enforcement activity on university campuses in its latest newsletter, and our International Affairs unit continues to provide guidance on its dedicated webpage.
Two things to share
Collaboration will bring theranostics research, treatments to KC
Last week, KU Medical Center and partners announced their intentions to establish one of the nation’s first fully integrated theranostics platforms for adult and pediatric patients — bringing advanced research, diagnostics and targeted treatments together in one place.

Operations units align leadership under One KU framework
In December, I shared that University Cabinet leaders were developing strategies and organizational approaches for transitioning their areas to a One KU model. Recently, Senior Vice Chancellor and Chief Operating Officer David Vranicar announced changes to align Operations under a One KU model to better serve constituencies on all campuses.
