Colleagues,
Welcome to "3, 2, One KU," a weekly memo in which I'll share updates and thoughts for the week ahead. The title of the memo is derived from the format: each edition will include three things to know, two things to share, and one reflection on how our "One KU" initiative is enhancing collaboration across our campuses. I hope you find this weekly communication informative.
Respectfully,
Doug
Three things to know
KU takes pride in being a place where individuals can exercise their First Amendment right to free expression. With this in mind, I encourage you to take a moment to recognize Free Speech Week, a nationwide celebration of free speech and freedom of the press held each October. Its purpose is to reflect on the importance of free speech in our democracy. For resources specific to KU, visit our free speech website. State of the University Address available online Thank you to everyone who joined me last Thursday for my annual State of the University Address. I appreciated the opportunity to discuss our latest initiatives, challenges and opportunities, including how our One KU initiative is strengthening every aspect of our mission. A recording of my address is available online. RSVP for Provost Mafi’s State of the Campus presentation Oct. 28 Please join us at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, in the Kansas Union Ballroom for Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Arash Mafi’s first State of the Campus presentation. The event will also be livestreamed. A social gathering with food and drinks will follow, offering a chance to continue the conversation and connect with colleagues. Please RSVP if you plan to attend. |
Two things to share
Continuing to celebrate our University Teaching Awards honorees
Thank you to everyone who joined us last week to celebrate our University Teaching Awards recipients. It was a wonderful evening, filled with moving stories and reflections from educators who exemplify KU’s mission to educate leaders.
You can continue celebrating these outstanding educators by exploring our playlist of video vignettes featuring each winner. We’ve also launched a new digital feature highlighting many of our teaching award honorees and how they inspire students to do great things.

KU launches Higher Learning Commission accreditation review
In a little more than two years, KU will undergo evaluation by the Higher Learning Commission to ensure the university continues to meet accreditation standards. On Oct. 6, representatives from across KU’s campuses met to formally begin the process.
Accreditation is essential to KU’s ability to award degrees and is a requirement for students to receive federal financial aid, which about half of KU students currently receive. Many academic programs also maintain specialized accreditation.
