Bold Aspirations

A Strategic Plan for the University of Kansas

Bold Aspirations, the strategic plan for The University of Kansas, is the result of the coordinated effort of more than a thousand participants within the KU community. For almost a year, several diverse committees worked together to develop a plan focused on six specific goals and four overarching strategic themes. The plan serves as a guide for KU over the next five years.

Bold Aspirations builds on the strategic initiative planning that began in November, 2009 when Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little created three task forces to identify strategies for advancing the University of Kansas in the areas of research engagement and student recruitment, retention and success. You can read more about the mission of these task forces in her message to campus announcing the initiative.

The reports of these task forces and the chancellor's comments on their findings appear below. Provost Jeff Vitter used the work of these groups to inform the strategic planning process for the Lawrence and Edwards campuses, and a similar planning effort took place at the KU Medical Center. Chancellor's Vision

The mission of the University of Kansas is to lift students and society by educating leaders, building healthy communities, and making discoveries that change the world.

We will do that by raising the expectations we have for ourselves, the aspirations we have for our state, and the hopes we have for our world.

KU is in the midst of a comprehensive effort to ensure the university is ranked among the top tier of public international research universities.

Through Bold Aspirations, our strategic plan, we're changing the way we prepare students for success. We're fostering research and scholarship across all disciplines. And we're sharing the benefits of a flagship university with our state and world.

This effort is supported by Far Above: The Campaign for Kansas, as well as our initiative to reduce administrative costs, Changing for Excellence.
